I think it would be safe to say that we have been hoodwinked by the oppressor from the very beginning of this experiment called American Democracy. In this political year where the country will select a person to replace the first black president, we can see the subtle and not so subtle attempts to take back “their” country, particularly, on the GOP contenders.
This has been the case since the African was stolen and dragged onto the shores of this place they called “merica.” Throughout the next two hundred years of destruction of a culture, brutalized, and viewed as chattel they continued to condition the African America was the best place for them. Then about one-hundred fifty years ago, people of color and those of African descent were jubilant upon being told after the Civil War that they are now free.
There were amendments added to the Constitution that for the first time that claimed this group of people who had been enslaved now had binding rights to freedom. There was a reason those wretched souls would kill the slaves – in many ways like today; ignorance is bliss in terms of power. Then in 1954 came the Supreme Court Decision, Brown v Board that said the descendants of slaves had the right to equal education. If those people view blacks as citizens or if any of this were true, there would be no need for a civil rights movement or to sing we shall overcome! Not so much!
Today, we have a man of African descent living in the White House. Yet, the Constitution still says this cultural group is 3/5ths human, and freedom is no closer than it was a hundred-fifty years ago. It was meant from the beginning that this group was always intended to be second-class citizens – at best.
Dr. Carter G. Woodson, the father of Black History Month and Scholar, told us in 1933 “History shows that it does not matter who is in power… those who have not learned to do for themselves and have to depend solely on others never obtain any more rights or privileges in the end than they did in the beginning.” In the same novel, he also reminded us that “if you control what a man is thinking you don’t have to worry about what he thinks”.
If this were not so, “Colored People” would not be in the condition and face the dire situations in the twenty-first century. The fact of the matter is that nature did not invent racism nor should history have a color, but the victor, not the victim has made it so through sustained indoctrination. We are told there is something called the separation of church and state. However, without both working in concert, the sustained system of oppression cannot exist. Therefore, the conqueror must erase and confuse you mentally. That conqueror’s greatest achievement was to take away your mind.
This led to and continued to be the theory behind the concept of “Manifest Destiny,” which means a divine right given by God. This means all power forced upon the people stolen from Africa and proclaimed God himself said it was his right to do so, and that the conqueror was the “Supreme Being.” Hence, to this very day you worship “him” through the deity he created for you to honor. Divide and Conquer is the basis for all you know and the lack of what you don’t know to be true.
So I say, African Americans have endured the longest “Holocaust” in the history of the world through policies, and it’s continued political trickery. We should not expect too much, only what we get is what we always got! And that’s my thought provoking perspective…
