Commentary: American Terror Worse Than ISIS

The American government intrudes in the lives of people all over the word in the so-called war on terror claiming they want to end it. The impetus being that in most cases that hate and anger is what they created. I do not subscribe to the theory that ISIS is the boogie man promoted as the evilest group of people on the planet.

In my view the system of white supremacy and those who maintain it takes first prize. There is hundreds of years of history and evidence to prove it. Naturally, white folk will disagree, and they have for four hundred years. But as recent news accounts demonstrate the terrorist are here in America and are being paid by the government.

During yesterday’s news conference in Chicago, all the talk was about praise for the police and, of course, the usual plea’s for peace. The mayor surrounded himself with a bunch of “chicken pickin” uncles and black people to say “we are one city.” Now, the mayor and everyone knew this was murder over a year ago and saw the video, On top of that they even paid off the family. So this was no new revelation. They were doing what they have always done, try to sweep this story under the rug. I am so sick and tired of hearing about “all the good cops” because there are none. If there are so many good cops, where the hell are they while this terror is being inflicted upon the black community?

The terror is not only coming from the police but the white community in general. They compare the Black Lives Matter Movement to the KKK. Yet, over the weekend protesters from the group were shot and wounded in Minneapolis as they protested one of the hundreds of police killings of a black man. Police say they are seeking for three suspects, described as two white males and an Asian male, who were captured yesterday. The men, described by protesters as white supremacists had been taunting and provoking protesters, and were being escorted out of the area when the men pulled weapons and began firing.

The protesters were demonstrating the death of Jamar Clark, 24, on Nov. 15 in a police confrontation. Multiple witnesses have said Clark was shot in the head while handcuffed, a description that police dispute. Authorities have refused to release available video of the shooting, which reportedly recorded only portions of the confrontation. This is also what happened in Chicago. It took a court order to make the city release the very disturbing video of that police murder.

For two years, we have witnessed a murder by police at the rate of one black man, woman, and child a week. So far neither the system nor white folk seems to see a problem here, even when each recorded video is worse than the last. Here’s what we do know: THEY DON’T CARE ABOUT BLACK LIFE.

This case was so bad that Chicago authorities offered and paid the McDonald family a $5 million settlement last summer before the family had even filed suit. According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, the city paid out $14 million to settle allegations of police misconduct and brutality between 2006 and 2012, yet officers in almost all of those cases no cop faced any disciplinary action. A police review panel established last year to review allegations has handled 439 cases; none has resulted in officer discipline.

In the Chicago murder, it remains to be seen whether the result of this murder charge will produce a conviction – highly doubtful! But the Chicago police officer is now charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of a 17-year-old black male more than 13 months ago. It will be the first such indictment in 35 years in Chicago. The victim, Laquan McDonald, had been in possession of PCP and armed with a three inch knife, which was closed, but the long suppressed video of that shooting apparently shows McDonald walking away from police when an officer jumps out of a police car, and in 30 seconds fires at him and hits him 16 times. No other officer on the scene fired.

Egregious as this apparently is, the case probably would have been ignored if not for the video, in the same way, most killing and brutality case have in the past. Yet, even with video it seems not to matter much. The police union, the so-called brotherhood, for example, had claimed that the officer fired after McDonald lunged at him with a knife; there is apparently no evidence of that in the video, which was released by order of the court. This tells me that the city and police had something to hide.

The New York Times has reported, this year alone more than 99 percent of citizen complaints concerning police misconduct were dismissed with no action taken. Given that overall record, it would seem safe to assume that the 28,000 official complaints comprise only a fraction of such incidents. In the rare cases in which action was taken, black officers were twice as likely to be disciplined as their white colleagues.

The officer, who shot McDonald, Jason Van Dyke, had 18 complaints filed against him, including allegations of brutality and racism. No action had been taken on any of them.

It’s a pretty straightforward principle: Those whom we entrust to enforce the law deserve our full support. But that support does not and cannot imply a de facto exemption from that same law, nor any immunity from judgment and accountability. And while that principle applies regardless of the race of officer or citizen, black Americans have a legitimate reason to believe that when it is violated, they are disproportionately its victims.

They talk about ISIS and terror in other places. I say the black man’s fight is not with ISIS, rather it is about the terror inflicted upon black people here in America on main street USA! And that’s my thought provoking perspective…
