Trump Means Gloom And Doom

imagesI am not one who believes in the many end of the world scenarios people talk about, but it does seem like every so often it looks like the world is coming to an end. Some cult leader, preachers, and I will say with the rise of Trump – it sure seems plausible. Be it from a cult leader or some jackleg preacher! However, we know the world has been spinning for billions of years, and dare I say it will continue. But if Trump is elected it won’t be as we knew it.

With that said, I have lived through segregation, and through times when race relations were so bad that they had to keep some white folks on a leash. I have seen the Klan at work, and racial terror of all kinds. It is frightening that what I see now pales in comparison regarding to those days of racial hatred. Today, we have the Republicans want to bring back what they call the “good old days” and take back their country.

This notion has been made since Jesus left the earth; when he said he would return, which is repeated profoundly according to the Book of Revelations. I will admit I believe Jesus is coming back, and the world will end one day, but I don’t think it will happen this week or next. With that said, as I look at the pitiful state of the 2016 Republican Presidential candidate – the end seems closer than we think. At least, it looks like America’s time in the sun is nearing an end. From what we see being reported the signs are there – giving us clues.

We all know the world is in turmoil: hurricanes, flood, tornadoes, earthquakes, wars, etc, etc. These things have always existed since time began; the only difference is that because of technology we have more information and know that more of it is happening and know about it with rapid speed.

Law and Order theme!

Seems like every so often some nut comes out of the woodwork or appears to bring harm to all of us. A prudent Trump is bad new! Especially, when times are bad and the reality is times have always been bad for black people. When it comes to this election, 2016, for the next president, there are only two choices: evil and less evil or a good Massa and a not so good Massa; either way you still get a Massa, which has been a reality for black folk.

This is not new either; America is structured so there must always be a Massa in charge since the day of the greatest theft the world has ever known occurred, meaning taking the people of Africa and making them slaves. If there was a time to end the world or civilization, which there was nothing civil about the horrors inflicted upon the captured people – they called slaves. They used fear as a weapon, as they do now, to control the minds of the lost.

In fact: Many people have been captivated by the idea of the end of times since man first walked the earth. Some have even been so bold as to pick a date. I won’t do that but if Trump is elected the End Times will be upon us.

In the Book of Revelations, the Bible speaks of an Antichrist, who would appear, capture the minds of men, and lead them to destruction. With a President Trump, the government will cease to exist as we know it. I’m going to do something I never thought I would do, which is to act as a slow prophet and predict that if Trump wins it will be the final sign that the end is upon us. If not for all people, for sure Just Us! And that’s my thought provoking perspective…

The Citizens Counsel Returns: Armed And Dangerous

thFirst there was the Slave Master followed by a number of variations from slave catchers to overseers of Apartheid American style. What evolved from that was the “Klan” and a more political version of them called the “Citizens Counsel.” In modern times, we call them the Tea Party! At each phase of this evil, there was a philosophy in which these people presumed to be moral, righteous, and yes sanctioned by God himself. In other words, the American way!

Senator Ted Cruz is a right-wing nut that seems to be the leader of a new version of this ilk. He has and continues to make utterly remarkable statements that makes him eerily similar to such and clearly aligned him with the ideology of American racist of the past. The Cruzer once said, America would be better off if the Senate were full of people like Jesse Helms, the late senator, who was ardently opposed to all kinds of civil rights measures and even tried to block the Senate from approving a federal holiday in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Cruz made the remark at a Heritage Foundation event dubbed the “Jesse Helms Lecture Series,” where Cruz told a story of Helms receiving a $5,000 political donation from actor John Wayne, who apparently later told Helms he liked him because “you’re that guy saying all those crazy things” and that there needed to be 100 more of him. To which the Cruzer said, “It’s every bit as true now as it was then… We need 100 more like Jesse Helms in the U.S. Senate.” Yes, this is the guy that wants to be the next president!

Helms, a conservative North Carolina Republican, who served in the Senate for 30 years, was known for his efforts to stop progressive policies relating to gay rights, abortion and race. He voted against the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which he referred to as “the single most dangerous piece of legislation ever introduced in the Congress.” When the Senate acted in 1983 to create a federal holiday honoring King, Helms staged a 16-day filibuster to try to block it. He ultimately caved in exchange for action on a tobacco bill.

From public statements, Cruz’s ideology is derived from what sounds like his mentor or idol. He went on to say that the first political donation he ever made was to Helms — $10 — and praised the late senator for his outspokenness. From the government shutdown to child stories from the senate floor “believer” feel this is the man who can “take back their country” by turning back the hands of time.

I am old enough to remember the racial bigotry of Helms and those like him; such as George Wallace and Strom Thurman to which I see nothing to be proud of by anyone with their views. With Cruz’s McCarthy like tactics and statements such as this remind us of a shameful time not so long ago, where America should never want to return.

In totality, the new crop of conservatives are merely a representation that is eerily similar to their forefathers racial past and we see you for who you are. Moreover, because of the many who support and agree with the likes of him, we should be afraid – terrified! And that’s my thought provoking perspective…

SHUTDOWN: Snakes In The House

13The snake has always been deemed the reptile most associated with evil. I don’t want to sound too biblical but we remember the story of Adam and Eve! So from the very beginning of this Republican ideological conflict within their “Klan” things have intensified since the so-called “Young Guns” arrived. It is obvious they want to destroy America or at least want America to fail, which reminds me of what it must have been like in the years leading to the American Civil War.

This move to shut down the US Government over Obamacare is like “putting pins in a voodoo doll” that looks like President of Obama. By the way, the Affordable Care Act is the law of the land and the law takes effect today. This insanity of consequences be damn is just another attempt to damage the legacy of President Obama – if not destroy it. In other words these so-call patriots are nothing more than “terrorists”.

The Tea-party populism has moved quickly to do everything they can to attack and destroy American. Hence, we will see a revolt against the Republican “establishment” or a revolt against anyone who accepts the constraints of a political reality. Conservatives are excommunicated not for holding the wrong convictions but for rational calculations of their convictions.

The U.S. government began a shutdown today for the first time in 17 years after a Congress bitterly divided over President Obama’s signature health-care initiative failed to reach agreement to fund federal agencies. So the so-called “job creators” allowed millions of Americans to be out of work confirms that this is the worst Congress in history. These so-called patriots have declared war on us all.

I don’t like to name names but the generals of the this confederacy have names like Cruz, Boehner, McConnell, Ryan, Cantor, and about twenty crazies hell bent on political disaster have all the virtue of an un-intellectual clown circus.

The impasse means 800,000 federal workers will be furloughed, national parks, monuments and museums, as well as most federal offices, will close. Tens of thousands of air-traffic controllers, prison guards and Border Patrol agents will be required to serve without pay.

In a last-minute ray of hope for active-duty troops, Congress approved and sent to the White House an agreement to keep issuing military paychecks. But Obama warned that the broader economy, which is finally starting to recover from the shocks of the Bush years, would take a substantial hit if congressional gridlock shutters “America’s largest employer.”

“Keeping the people’s government open is not a concession to me. Keeping vital services running and hundreds of thousands of Americans on the job is not something you ‘give’ to the other side. It’s our basic responsibility,” Obama said in a statement Monday evening at the White House.

Privately, senior Republicans predicted that the closure would last at least a week. A fraction of today’s House Republicans were on Capitol Hill in 1995 and 1996 when a Republican-led Congress last shut down the government in a dispute over the budget with a Democratic president. Younger lawmakers don’t remember the pain the shutdown caused constituents, senior and the poor and many of them now question the conventional wisdom that the closures weakened the GOP presidential candidate in 1996 and nearly cost the party control of the House.

So for all of the folks who support those so-called patriots, who wear the funny hats, pointed or otherwise, will now feel the pain of their insanity. So yes, I’ll say these terrorists or teajadists are snakes in the house. And that’s my thought provoking perspective…

A Portrait Of Urban Terror

1On May 31st in Tulsa, Oklahoma police dropped dynamite on the flourishing Black neighborhood of Greenwood bombing it from the air destroying what was known as “Black Wall Street”.

Andre Jones wrote a great piece that recounts a very important part of a relatively recent African American history that most people know very little about. In Philadelphia an organization known as MOVE were bombed much in the same way. The city sanctioned this massacre that took place on May 13th, 1985 in the Cobbs Creek neighborhood of West Philadelphia.

Here is the story:

The MOVE organization was initially founded by John Africa (born Vincent Leaphart), who dropped out of high school at age 16 with a third grade reading level. After serving in the Korean War and becoming disgusted at the American “class system”, John met Donald Glassey, a social worker at University of Pennsylvania. Though John was, for all purposes, functionally illiterate – this did not stop him from making astute observations about how society operated. Glassey who became quite interested in John’s ideas offering to transcribe those thoughts. This cumulated into a three-hundred page manuscript that became known as “The Guidelines” – the “bible” of the MOVE organization.

The original name of MOVE was actually “Christian Movement for Life”, which was shortened to “the Movement” and ended up being simply called MOVE. Though considered a black liberation group by many, The MOVE organization attracted both black and white members who were frustrated with society and needed “answers” to many societal ills. MOVE seemed to provide answers to those questions.

MOVE’s back-to-nature approach involved eating only raw food, eschewing soap and electricity, and refusing to practice any type of birth control measures. After hearing various complaints from neighbors regarding various intolerable living habits of the MOVE members, such as loud and profane proselytizing through the use of a bullhorn and composting which created a rodent issue among other health hazards, the city and its then mayor, Frank Rizzo, decided to get involved.

In May of 1977, MOVE members started appearing on their porch at 307-309 N 33rd St, in Powelton Village wearing military outfits and brandishing firearms in response to an order to vacate the premises (owned by Donald Glassey). This set off a 14 month siege which tragically ended on August 8th, 1978 with a police officer being killed in a shootout with MOVE members. The MOVE home was demolished, and nine of its members were sentenced to prison terms ranging from thirty to one hundred years (those members are now known as “The MOVE 9”). Two years later, MOVE relocated to 6221 Osage Avenue in the Cobbs Creek area of West Philadelphia where the same problems presented themselves along with new ones.

After numerous complaints from neighbors along with various indictments of MOVE members for various crimes, on March 13, 1985, the Philadelphia Police Department attempted to remove and arrest indicted MOVE members from the Osage Avenue building.  As before, this resulted in an armed standoff with the Philadelphia Police Department.  This time they went a drastic step further, dropping two improvised bombs made of C-4 and Tovex (a dynamite substitute and a water gel explosive used in underwater mining), on the roof of the MOVE home. The deadly attack left 11 of 13 MOVE members who were inside the home dead, five of which were children. The resulting fire destroyed 61 homes and left 240 people homeless. Philadelphia is the second American city to use explosives on its own constituents and became known as “The City That Bombed Itself”.

A Federal jury found that Police Commissioner Gregore J. Sambor and Fire Commissioner William C. Richmond made a decision to allow the resulting fire to burn for almost an hour (the bombs did not create the desired effect), creating the aforementioned disaster. They awarded the two remaining survivors, Ramona Africa and young Birdie Africa (Michael Ward), a total of $1.5 million in civil damages, finding the City of Philadelphia liable for the fire that ended up killing 11 MOVE members and turning a working class city block into ashes. Over twenty families are still battling the City of Philadelphia to pay for their demolished homes.

We think America is a great place, which is true but often times it is not so much for people of color. History has shown that it will repeat itself – thanks for the reminder Andre Jones. An atrocity such as this could happen to you. And that’s my thought provoking perspective…

Heartless Conservatives

Ken-BlackwellI often wonder about the souls of mankind, which in this case begs the question; where is the compassion that the Republicans and those conservatives who claim to be compassionate? They claim to be Christians or at least religious. So what would Jesus think of their actions? Moreover, what God is it that they claim to worship say?

There is a saying the Indians used while their country was being stolen, which was they “speak with forked tongue”! One conservative activist said, there’s “nothing more Christian” than the massive food stamp cuts passed last week by House Republicans”. If I can recall – this is not Jesus’ teaching. Therefore, I would suggest these people have the heart of a devil.

When I read and hear remarks by the people of this ilk I can only compare them to the past wretched history of the Klan and those people who supported and owned “slaves”. These people are as despicable as any of the old Segregationist and dare I say the bold racist of the past like Wallace, Thurman, Connors, and so many more. The actions of James Crow Junior are shockingly sad.

Ken Blackwell, a senior fellow for the Family Research Council, told the Christian Post on Saturday that welfare programs such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program bred dependency. Blackwell a black man is the former Ohio secretary of state and failed 2006 gubernatorial candidate said he favored empowering the poor and working poor to become self-sufficient.

Blackwell, like most of these Republicans, does not quote any specific plans for doing this. This guy went on to say “making sure they are participants in their own upliftment and empowerment so that they, in fact, through the dignity of work … can break from the plantation of big government.” I have a thought that maybe the job creators might consider – CREATE JOBS!

Christian advocacy groups are divided over whether the 10-year, $40 billion cut to the food stamp program passed last week in the House would help America’s poor. Let me answer that for those who this issue is too complicated – NO IT WON’T!

Rev. Gary Cook, director of church relations at the anti-hunger group Bread for the World, told the Christian Post that food stamps had strong biblical support. “In the whole kind of Biblical frame, God made three provisions for hungry people… One was the tithe, which was literally a tax, because the government was the same as the religious order, and allowed widows and orphans to eat”, Cook said.

“The second provision was that there would always be Sabbath and jubilee, where every seven years and 50 years, there was land redistribution. This provision was to prevent class of people that were currently hungry.” The last, Cook said, was gleaning — where corners of the field were deliberately not harvested so poorer members of the community could gather the remainder and use it to feed themselves. “Here, hungry people have access to food as a matter of right, not as a matter of charity,” Cook told the newspaper.

But Blackwell contends that any gaps in coverage should be filled by charity, not the government. Now, this sad Negro Blackwell said “America is such a compassionate nation, nothing in history that suggests that churches and communities and our families would let people die of hunger, there is absolutely nothing”. But he/they want the government to do so.

The GOP are masters of finding some pitiful Negro to sellout and say anything for “thirty pieces of silver”. God said, “as you do to the least of thee – you do to me”. Again, what would Jesus say! I don’t think he is going to like this. And that’s my thought provoking perspectives…

Why Do I Need To Be Different?

About The Book

Book CoverHave you looked in the mirror recently? Was the person looking back at you the person you used to be or are you not sure who is starring back at you? Sometimes during the course of life we allow ourselves to become what society says we ought to be. Society and its norms should not be how we define ourselves.

God has made each one of us to be uniquely different and special in our own right. When we take the time to examine ourselves we may be surprised how much of the real us is gone. Physically we disfigured ourselves or made ourselves sick trying to measure up to how society says we ought to look or be. Who I Be is personal. It is time that we focus on who and how God intended for us to be.

We were fearfully and wonderfully made and we should find satisfaction in being made in God’s image and not who or what society says we should be. Our physical, emotional, mental, and financial status does not make us. Who I Be is about the person who can be themselves and not be stressed or anxious about becoming another product of circumstances or norms to be wholly.

Annie is the proud parent of four adult children, five grandchildren, and one great grandchild. She is a licensed minister and attends Joyful Noise AOH Church of God in Sylacauga, Alabama where she serves as the church secretary.

Annie holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work from the University of Montevallo and a Masters of Social Work degree from the University of Alabama. She currently works at Lakeside Hospice, Inc. in Pell City, Alabama as a hospice social worker.  As a social worker, Annie works with the terminally ill, providing emotional support at the most critical time in an individual’s life.

Annie’s heart desire is that people will learn to love themselves. In order to love themselves a person cannot conform to society’s norms as to what is acceptable but rather believe what God’s Word says.

We did not choose our parents, so we have no control over our DNA makeup. But I do know and trust God’s Word that we all were wonderfully and fearfully made. Is not that a blessing that no matter what our beginning features were like, God made us good and very good? It is that innate (inborn) desire within us to be accepted by the world standards that keeps us from accepting who we really are. Contributing factors are the lies the devil has us believing that there is always something wrong with us. We are never satisfied. If we are short, we want to be taller.

If we have a dark complexion, we want to be lighter. If we are white, we want a tan. If we are slender, we want to put on weight, and if we are obese, we want to lose weight. While there is nothing wrong with wanting to make some adjustments to our physical bodies, it becomes almost an obsession when the images that society and the devil paint as acceptable are what we yearn to be.

So what do we need to do as we feed into this deception and believe things are what the devil tells us they are? We should cry out to God as King David did on so many occasions for help. If we want to step from low self-esteem to confi dence, we must take heed of the Word of God and believe what God says about us. Since the fall in the Garden of Eden, the adversary (the devil) has been deceiving people to believe that he knows better than God. St John referred to the devil as a liar and the father of lies.

The 2013 AfricanAmerican Consumer Report

1A new report by Nielsen and NNPA reflects the enormous and growing buying power of African Americans. The report says African American buying power continues to increase and is expected to rise from its current $1 trillion level to $1.3 trillion by 2017, according to Resilient, Receptive and Relevant:

The African-American Consumer 2013 Report. The report was released last week by Nielsen, a leading global provider of information and insights into what consumers watch and buy, in collaboration with the NNPA during the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s 43rd Annual Legislative Conference.

Highlights from the report include:

  • Fifty-three percent of the 43 million Blacks in the U.S. are under the age of 35, and the Black population has grown 63 percent faster than the general market population
  • Blacks watch more television (37 percent); make more shopping trips (eight), purchase more ethnic beauty and grooming products (nine times more), read more financial magazines (28 percent) and spend more than twice the time on personal hosted websites than any other group.
  • Although 81 percent of Blacks said they believed that products advertised using Black media are more relevant to them, only 3 percent or $2.24 billion of the $75 billion spent on television, magazine, Internet and radio advertising was with media focused specifically on Black audiences.
  • How companies can avoid a “one-size-fits-all” approach to better connect with Black consumers

The findings were announced by Cheryl Pearson-McNeil, senior vice-president, public affairs and government relations for Nielsen, Cloves Campbell, chairman of the NNPA, a 73-year-old federation of 200 Black community newspapers; and A. Shuanise Washington, president and chief executive officer of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation.

“The consumer insights this year are some of the most varied yet,” said Pearson-McNeil. “From store brand loyalty, to top watched television networks, which mobile apps are most popular, a deep dive into how Blacks spend their digital time and how companies can reach 10 million Black consumers by developing a southern regional strategy – this year’s report is really a compelling read for both advertisers and marketers.”

“This year, the report goes a step further and lists the premier 50 companies, in the top five categories committed to the Black community economically,” said Campbell. “This type of information helps the NNPA continue our efforts to create conscious consumers who better understand how their economic power has a direct impact on the marketplace overall and that kind of information is invaluable.”

Beyond the business impact Blacks have on the economy, the report also provides more granular insights into its population growth, and demographic uniqueness, which was of particular interest to Washington. “The CBCFs mission is to advance the global Black community by developing leaders, informing policy and educating the public,” said Washington. “Nielsen’s report will prove helpful as we continue our efforts to improve the socioeconomic circumstances of African Americans and other underserved communities.”

As thoughtful and intelligent people isn’t it time that we harness this buying power and make the one percent and the American business community respect us. Further, wouldn’t it be wonderful if we channeled this money into black businesses and the African American community to create a lasting legacy based upon a eternal economic foundation. And that’s my thought provoking perspective…

The GOP’s Insane Endgame

images (2)There is a saying that “even a fool makes sense sometime” and another says “a clock is right twice a day”. But I have to tell you that the GOP and Tea Party just destroyed both of those cliché’s by ignoring the wishes of the White House, the Senate, and just about every sane person in existence. Today, the House of Representatives passed a stopgap funding bill that will shut down the government unless Democrats agree to defund President Barack Obama’s marquee health care law.

Let me go on record and say the chances of the Senate passing the Bill or the president signing it is far less than “slim to none” and both slim and none are nowhere to be found. Don’t they remember what happened to Newt when his gang tried this a while back when it had dire consequences for them? The may well be a blessing in disguise for the voters and the American people because maybe now everyone will see them for who they are and be the end to this ilk.

Rep. Hal Rogers (R-Ky.), chairman of the House Appropriations Committee said with a straight face that “It simply keeps the lights on in our government.” Rogers, whose committee is effectively short-circuited by the three-month stopgap bill, said almost nothing about the Affordable Care Act, but House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) made clear that the main point of the measure is to block the health care law.

“This resolution will also protect the working middle class from the devastating effects of Obamacare,” said Cantor. “Let’s defund this law now, and protect the American people from the economic calamity that we know Obamacare will create.” I was wondering if Cantor realized that this vote marked the 42nd time that the House Republican conference has said yes to gutting Obamacare and that the Senate has ignored nearly everything the House has pushed for.

I am going to agree with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) who slammed the bill in a floor speech ahead of the vote, saying that the measure “was designed to shut down the government. It could have no other intent. Its purpose is clear.” Pelosi added that “It is a wolf in wolf’s clothing.”

I know and understand that politics is a dirty business but the things the GOP is doing or are trying to do is “lowdown and dirty”. Frankly, with the draconian cuts to social programs and their constant obstructions – they make the “Wicked Witch of the West” look like a princess. Moreover, this has nothing to do with the American people but everything to do with the skin color of the leader of the free world and his support of the American people. And that’s my thought provoking perspective…
